Our little family loves Blacksburg and all it has to offer! Last week we made a family day of it and visited all of the sweetie locations that we love so much! We photographed our journey for you to see, and even though it was full sun most of the day, it was still a precious day as a family and we got a few photos to show you! Hahn Horticulture Garden – A Floral Wonderland
Nestled on the Virginia Tech campus, the Hahn Horticulture Garden is a breathtaking oasis spanning nearly six acres! We were there for over an hour and there was still more we didn’t explore, which was fine, because we definitely plan to go back soon for a few sessions we have! This garden is bursting with color year-round, from lush greenery to vibrant seasonal blooms! It’s a peaceful, beautifully designed space where every corner begs to be photographed. I kinda over did it with the photos, but that’s not a surprise!
The staff has cultivated an environment that feels like a retreat honestly! It’s calm, serene, and utterly picturesque. Whether you’re strolling along shaded pathways, pausing by a tranquil water features, or letting your kids explore, this garden offers a super dreamy backdrop for your family photos in Blacksburg. Nellies Cave Park & The Meadow – Wide-Open Spaces for Playful Moments
If you’re looking for a relaxed, family-friendly spot, Nellies Cave Park is a gem! It’s known for its wide-open meadow, which is perfect for kids to run free while I capture their genuine laughter and energy. The park also features a fun playground and shaded picnic areas, making it an ideal setting for families who love to explore!
The open field at The Meadow at Nellies Cave Park is particularly magical at golden hour, with soft light streaming across the grass! So pretty and perfect for a storytelling-style session! It features this HUGE gorgeous tree that would be perfect for sitting under for some snuggles! Whether you’re snuggling with your little ones on a blanket or chasing giggles through the field, this spot offers a beautiful and natural setting for family photos in Blacksburg! I plan to get more photos of this location soon!
Heritage Community Park – Adventure & Connection in Nature
For families who love adventure, Heritage Community Park is an absolute dream! We played here for hours and even at a picnic table and watched a movie because it was peaceful! Spanning 169 acres, this park offers open meadows, wooded trails, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. It’s the perfect storytelling location, where your family can roam, explore, and simply be themselves while I capture those fleeting, love-filled moments!
The mix of landscapes-from streambeds and wildflowers to open fields-creates a variety of backdrops within a single session. If you love the idea of candid, movement-filled photos where your kids can just be kids, this is a fantastic option.
